About the Summit

The Topic

Transport plays a central role for societies that seek to ensure economically and environmentally sustainable prosperity, and that strive to share benefits more equitably among all citizens. ITF’s 2016 Summit on Green and Inclusive Transport will explore the importance of low-carbon transport as an essential element in the transition to a green growth economy as well as the changes needed to make transport more inclusive and provide access for everyone to jobs, public services, and other opportunities.

The Event

The Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum is the premier global transport policy event. Since 2008, the Summit brings together ministers from around the world to share policy perspectives with CEOs, heads of international organisations, thought leaders from civil society and academia, and media. This vibrant conference addresses strategic and topical issues across all transport modes where participants can engage in the debate through a variety of session formats.

The programme

The Summit offers a rich programme over three days. The programme includes policy discussions with ministers in different formats, keynote addresses, networking opportunities, demonstrations, technical tours and an exhibition. Major ITF partner organisations will host Summit side events. Evening receptions, a Gala Dinner, and cultural tours complement the Summit programme.

Panel sessions

Ministers are joined by high-level speakers in more than 20 panel sessions covering a wide range of cutting-edge transport topics. Panels reflect a broad geographic and professional diversity and focus on practical policy experiences from different settings. The discussions are moderated by experienced journalists.

Ministerial sessions

The Ministerial sessions are at the heart of the Summit. In the Open Ministerial session, transport ministers from the 57 member countries of the International Transport Forum exchange on the burning political issues for the transport sector. Additional input is provided by three CEOs from transport or related sectors. This session is open to all delegates and the media.

ITF Masterclass

A workshop-like format in which international thought leaders take a hands-on, interactive approach to examine specific transport issues together with participants.

ITF Open Stage Café

Presentations, discussions and great coffee! – During the networking breaks, ITF partner organisations present their Summit-related projects in a relaxed coffee house atmosphere.

The Summit provides a multitude of opportunities to meet, share, learn and engage with all stakeholders. Over 100 bilateral meetings are held during the Summit, and there are countless informal opportunities for networking - from receptions, the VIP lunch, a Gala Dinner, the ITF Open Stage Café and exhibitors' stands to technical visits and cultural tours.

Over 100 accredited journalists from around the world cover the latest on transport policy issues and access key decision-makers. Press conferences, publication launches, signings of agreements and other media events ensure broad Summit coverage in print, online, radio and TV.

More than 50 exhibitors from around the world showcase the latest initiatives and technological developments. They represent governments, businesses, International Organisations, research institutions, NGOs and business associations.
